About The MASA Project of Arizona
The MASA Project of Arizona (TMPAZ) is a volunteer-powered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals and families facing hunger, homelessness, addiction, crisis, and disaster throughout Arizona.
Our mission is rooted in one simple belief: every person deserves compassion, dignity, and hope.
Every week, our volunteers prepare and serve fresh meals, distribute bottled water, hygiene supplies, clothing, and essential resources while building meaningful relationships with the people we serve. We believe that a hot meal is more than nourishment—it is an opportunity to listen, encourage, and remind someone they are not forgotten.
Beyond food outreach, our team responds to community needs through disaster relief efforts, neighborhood clean-up projects, crisis support, and partnerships with local businesses, churches, and organizations that share our commitment to serving others.
Whether someone is experiencing temporary hardship or a long-term crisis, our goal is to meet people where they are, without judgment, and connect them with resources that can help them move toward stability and recovery.

Erik Sanchez is the Founder, Executive Director, and Director of Operations for The MASA Project of Arizona, a volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to fighting hunger, supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, responding to disasters, and providing crisis services throughout Arizona.
As an autistic leader, Erik brings a unique perspective to community outreach. His experiences have shaped his commitment to building genuine, lasting relationships with individuals who are often overlooked or struggle to advocate for themselves. He believes that every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.
Under Erik's leadership, The MASA Project has grown into a community-driven organization powered almost entirely by volunteers and local supporters. Together, they have provided services to more than 120,000 individuals and serve approximately 24,000 free meals each year, along with bottled water, hygiene supplies, clothing, and connections to community resources.
Erik continues to work alongside volunteers on the front lines, meeting people where they are, removing barriers to care, and encouraging individuals to pursue recovery, stability, and hope. His mission extends beyond providing meals—he is committed to building trust, restoring dignity, and strengthening communities one person at a time.

I believe in paying it forward. I can never repay the help I was given. Years back I was a single mom and was lost. A great man, Anthony Valenzuela helped me get a fresh start. He worked on 7th Ave and Buckeye, which I think was DES. A neighbor across the street at that time helped me with food and diapers. She had very little and a family of her own she was providing for. I had other people help along the way but those were the first to go over and beyond. People that didn't know me at but went over and beyond to lend me a hand. Because of the neighbor and Mr. Valenzuela, I made it through one of the toughest times. It's important for me to pay it forward ten fold. I try to instill this in my kids hearts as well.
